Credit union leaders and staff from the New York Credit Union Association were in New York City last week for the Metropolitan Chapter’s meeting with NCUA Region 1 Director Larry Blankenberger. The meeting provided attendees with an opportunity to discuss a number of credit union issues with the director, such as NCUA’s plan to close its Region 1 operations.
Much of the discussions also focused on declining taxi medallion values and the ripple effect the disruption in that industry is having on credit unions that originate or participate in taxi medallion loans.
The event, which included a question-and-answer session with Blankenberger, drew approximately 45 attendees from around the region.
Attendees from the Association included: President/CEO William J. Mellin, General Counsel Henry Meier, VP of Governmental Affairs Michael Lieberman and Management Consultant Dirck Van Deusen. Board Secretary John C. Gibardi, president/CEO of Entertainment Industries FCU, also attended and helped facilitate the event.
