May marks start of Older Americans Month

index.pngMay is Older Americans Month, and NCUA is encouraging credit unions to educate their older members on how to avoid becoming a victim of elder abuse.

As a reminder, NCUA has a number of resources available for older Americans on the agency’s consumer website, mycreditunion.gov. The “Pocket Cents” section of the website includes information on preventing financial abuse of the elderly and scams targeting older adults. The site also contains consumer-facing information on saving, credit and debit cards, preparing for life events, financial education and more.

Every May, the Administration on Aging, leads Older American’s Month. This year’s theme is Engage at Every Age, which emphasizes the idea that adults are never too old to take part in activities that can enrich their physical, mental and emotional well-being.
