As CUNA GAC wraps up, credit unions advocate with Hike the Hill meetings

The 2022 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference continued on Tuesday, with New York Credit Union Association and state credit union leadership meeting with legislators, including Sen. Chuck Schumer (as reported here). Among the additional meetings, Association leaders and advocates — along with the leaders of Empower FCU, Ukrainian FCU and Cornerstone Community Credit Union — met with Rep. Chris Jacobs of the 27th District, as pictured above.

Also, in remarks to CUNA GAC attendees on Tuesday, Kyle Hauptman, NCUA vice chairman, spoke about the importance of innovation, emphasizing two points: the NCUA providing quality service as a regulator and insurer and the impact of cryptocurrency on financial services. As previously reported Todd Harper, NCUA chairman, and Rodney Hood, current board member and former chairman, also addressed attendees at the CUNA GAC this week.

Oksana Markarova, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, addressed attendees Tuesday morning, asking for help from credit unions while defiantly pledging Ukraine will “fight and resist and, ultimately, prevail,” according to CUTODAY. Markarova has served as ambassador since 2021 and is also former minister of finance for Ukraine.

Today’s closing general session this morning included a conversation with Reince Priebus and Thomas “Mack” McLarty. III,” while Hill Hikes continue Wednesday and Thursday.
