Young credit union professionals from New York attended an advocacy workshop in Washington, D.C. The training workshop taught young professionals about the benefits of credit union advocacy, how to build strong relationships with their members of Congress and more.
The full-day workshop included:
- visits with lawmakers on Capitol Hill including, Reps. Nadler, Higgins, Rice, King and Reed;
- a congressional staff panel; and
- updates from CUNA and state league personnel.
The training was attended by Young Professional representatives from credit unions across the country, including New York, Florida, Michigan and California.
Individuals from New York credit unions that attended this advocacy workshop included:
- Elizabeth DiGangi, controller at Suffolk FCU;
- Rob Suarez, community development at Bethpage FCU;
- Michelle Traynor, corporate communications coordinator at Bethpage FCU;
- Angela Gugino, loan officer at Buffalo Metropolitan FCU;
- Stacey Walker, board director at XCEL FCU;
- Teri Wildey, legal assistant at New York Credit Union Association; and
- Michael Lieberman, VP of governmental affairs at NYCUA.
Stacey Walker, board director and attorney for XCEL FCU, said the advocacy workshop helped strive for stronger legislation to protect credit union members across New York state.
“As young credit union professionals from New York in our nation’s Capital, we met with representatives to advocate for stronger legislation to protect credit union members across New York,” said Walker. “The workshop gave us great pride to represent the credit union difference.”
