DFS seminar will review preventing elder financial exploitation

NYDFS-Logo-300x300The state Department of Financial Services will host a complimentary seminar on preventing elder financial exploitation Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. in White Plains, New York. The event will be held at the Westchester County Social Services Training Room located at 10 County Center Road.

During the session, participants will review the following topics:

  • recognizing the red flags of elder financial exploitation among members;
  • how Adult Protective Services and other community resources can help prevent elder abuse;
  • the importance of reporting suspected elder abuse to APS, law enforcement and the DFS; and
  • protections under federal and state law that allow credit union employees to report suspected abuse to authorities.

Staff from the DFS and Office of Children and Family Services will facilitate the discussion.
