The New York Credit Union Association’s 2018 advocacy efforts are in full swing. In recent weeks, Association staff have met with the offices of several influential lawmakers and regulators.
So far, Association staff have met with the leadership in both chambers of the Legislature, including counsel to the Senate majority leader, top aides in the Independent Democratic Conference, staff from the Senate Minority Conference, the chairman of the Ways and Means committee, and counsel in the Assembly minority. During the meetings, Association staff outlined the New York credit union movement’s legislative priorities for the current session.
The Association has also engaged with high-ranking staff from the state Department of Financial Services, who expressed continued interest in enhancing the state charter. Additionally, the Association’s governmental affairs team has met with a top official in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office to discuss the budget process and explain the Association’s priorities.
Last year, the Association made significant progress on several key legislative and regulatory priorities and will continue to build on that momentum in 2018.
