New York credit union advocates attending the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference are taking their message to federal lawmakers, with a full day of credit union advocacy planned on Capitol Hill today.

New York attendees began their advocacy efforts yesterday, when they met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York. Schumer expressed his support and thanks for the New York credit union movement, noting his appreciation for the work credit unions do for their members and communities.

New Yorkers also met yesterday with Reps. Paul Tonko, D-20, and Chris Collins, R-27, as well as with staff from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s office, D-NY.

Ahead of today’s Hill visits with members of the House, roughly 100 attendees participated in the New York Credit Union Association’s legislative briefing, which was led by Association VP of Governmental Affairs Michael Lieberman, and former NCUA Board Chairman Dennis Dollar. The two focused on the regulatory environment and regulatory relief, including S.2155, NCUA, the CFPB, data security legislation, website accessibility lawsuits and preserving the credit union tax status.
