More than 100 credit union advocates are in Albany today for the New York Credit Union Association’s State Governmental Affairs Conference. The conference, slated for April 23-24, provides attendees with opportunities to build relationships and discuss credit union issues with some of the most influential figures in state government.

This year’s conference will include a political update from Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, as well as a session on municipal deposits led by Bob Tackman, senior lending analyst at Empower FCU and mayor of the Village of East Syracuse; and Barbara Van Epps, deputy director of the New York Conference of Mayors. Attendees will also hear from a representative from the state Department of Financial Services.

Michael Lieberman, Association VP of governmental affairs, and Linda Bow, Association compliance director, will provide attendees with legislative and compliance updates.

This evening, attendees will have an opportunity to meet informally with lawmakers during the legislative reception.

Additionally, the conference will again include a special YP Track for young professionals and volunteers. Alloya Corporate FCU will serve as the YP track education sponsor, and CUNA Mutual Group will serve as the legislative panel sponsor.

Tomorrow will include a full day of legislative visits at the state Capitol with lawmakers and their staff. During their meetings, the advocates will address a number of credit union-specific legislative issues, including data security, mortgage foreclosure reform, state and municipal deposits, demand-note robberies, the banking development district program, and more.
