The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and Coopera will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., exclusively for Juntos Avanzamos Credit Unions on alternative forms of identification and documentation for immigrant members.
As Juntos Avanzamos credit unions accept alternative forms of identification and documentation to open accounts for foreign nationals every day, questions have surfaced about the nuances surrounding the account-opening process.
This webinar will:
- provide a refresher on the common identification and documentation used by Hispanic foreign nationals when opening accounts and IDs credit unions may not be accepting today, such as municipal IDs;
- discuss common and uncommon scenarios and questions from Juntos Avanzamos credit union employees opening accounts daily; and
- explore new ways credit unions can continue to welcome holders of Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers.

Juntos Avanzamos—Spanish for “Together We Advance”— is a nationwide movement and designation for credit unions that demonstrate a commitment to serving immigrants.
Last December, the New York Credit Union Association partnered with the Federation to support the Juntos Avanzamos immigrant outreach initiative. Through the partnership, the Association promotes the Juntos Avanzamos designation to New York credit unions and encourages participation.
