Olean Area FCU was recently awarded a Biz Kid$ Financial Education grant from the National Credit Union Foundation.
The New York credit union was one of nine credit unions nationwide approved for the grants, which totaled $53,100. The grants are distributed to encourage credit unions and related organizations to use Biz Kid$—a credit union funded public television series that teaches kids about money management and entrepreneurship—and its curriculum to improve students’ financial well-being.

Additionally, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund recently announced grants and loans to 302 CDFI-certified organizations totaling $34.5 million.
A number of credit unions were among the grant recipients, including the following New York and Puerto Rican credit unions:
- Brooklyn Cooperative FCU;
- Genesee Co-Op FCU;
- Lower East Side Peoples FCU;
- NYU FCU;
- The Finest FCU;
- Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito Aibonitena;
- Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito de Jayuya Incorporada;
- Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito Jesus Obrero; and
- Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito Saulo D. Rodriguez.
The grants were awarded in three categories: Technical Assistance, Financial Assistance and Healthy Food Financing Initiative Financial Assistance.
