Credit unions and individuals are encouraged to utilize the New York Credit Union Foundation’s multiple grant programs, which are designed to meet the unique needs of the New York credit union community.

The four types of grant programs that the Foundation offers are Disaster Relief Grants, Professional Development Grants, Smart Money Grants and Small Credit Union Grants.

Small Credit Union Grants help credit unions with up to $100 million in assets fund initiatives to improve member service. For example, the funds can be used to purchase new technology, enhance security and operations, or conduct strategic planning sessions.

The Foundation recently awarded 1199 SEIU FCU a Small Credit Union Grant in the amount of $3,000 to help purchase a new server and open-source license. This technology upgrade helped upgrade their server, which was coming to the end of its maintenance span.

Rohan Ketwaroo, chief information officer of 1199 SEIU FCU, said the Foundation has been a huge part in presenting opportunities in achieving the Manhattan-based credit union’s goals.

“We were awarded $3,000 toward the total cost of purchasing the new server and the OS license,” said Ketwaroo. “Though the project totaled $7,000, the grant provided us with a great relief, financially. This grant was useful to help improve our structure, from technology to community development.”

The grant was awarded to the credit union in early July.

“These different types of grants that the Foundation offers are useful and necessary to credit unions to continue to improve upon their structure, from technology to community development.”
