Association conducting survey for 2019 state legislative agenda

The New York Credit Union Association is seeking feedback on credit unions’ state-level legislative priorities. The survey will be used to help produce the Association’s 2019 state legislative agenda and further assist in the Association’s advocacy efforts.

The Association emailed the survey link yesterday afternoon to the main contacts at member credit unions.

Due to the outcome of the recent elections, the Association’s governmental affairs team will be operating in a dramatically different political environment in 2019 than in 2018. Notably, Democrats will have a majority in the state Senate, with Senate Minority Leader Andrea-Stewart Cousins, D-Westchester-Rockland, serving as the new Majority Leader. The Association believes a Democrat-controlled state Senate opens new doors for advancing longstanding credit union legislative priorities, including public deposits legislation. On the other hand, some legislative issues may be less viable under the new guard, such as increasing penalties for demand note robberies.
