New York credit union advocates are strongly encouraged to attend the annual 2019 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference, scheduled for March 10-14, in Washington, D.C. The event draws thousands of credit union advocates from across the country, and it is considered a vital part of the movement’s annual advocacy efforts.

The event touches on a wide range of advocacy issues and includes direct lobbying on Capitol Hill. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with their peers and engage in breakout sessions that explore regulatory compliance and other pressing industry matters.

This year’s speakers and presenters include:

Malcolm Gladwell, author of five New York Times bestsellers and named one of the 100 most influential people by Time magazine. Gladwell has been a staff writer for the New Yorker since 1996, and he has received national recognition for his ideas and writings.

Alison Levine, a history-making polar explorer, mountaineer and New York Times bestselling author. Levine served as team captain for the first American Women’s Everest Expedition, climbed the highest peak on each continent and skied to both the North Pole and South Poles. Her keynote speech will focus on leadership tactics, such as creating cohesive teams, taking responsible risks and developing leaders that can succeed in times of uncertainty.

Former Secretary of State and U.S. Sen. John Kerry. Kerry, a presidential nominee, will share his extensive experiences and insights into his lifetime of public service with CUNA GAC attendees. Kerry is renowned for his knowledge of the political arena and passion for humanitarian causes.

The CUNA GAC is considered the premier event for political impact in the credit union movement. The event features the financial industry’s largest exhibit hall and includes face-to-face meetings with some of the most influential policymakers in the country.

New York attendees should register for the annual event through the CUNA GAC website and secure lodging through the New York Credit Union Association website.

Registrants are also reminded to complete and submit their Hill Meeting Request Forms to help Association staff secure meeting times with lawmakers.
