The New York Credit Union Association earlier today issued an urgent call to action on legislation that would grant local governments the authority to deposit funds in credit unions. The Association strongly supports the legislation, A.3262 (Zebrowski)/S.6079 (Sanders), and is encouraging all New York credit union advocates to contact their state lawmakers and urge them to support the legislation.
The Association has learned the Senate Banks Committee is expected to vote on their version of the bill on Wednesday, May 29, at 10 a.m.

“A strong, united effort by the New York credit union movement could be the key to passing this critical legislation,” Association President/CEO William J. Mellin wrote in an email to credit unions earlier today. “This is the first of what could be several communications on the municipal deposits legislation. The bills could move quickly in the final days of session, and a coordinated and collaborative effort will be needed to push the legislation across the finish line.”
