Registration is open for a workshop focusing on the unique opportunities and legal challenges that the legalization of hemp — and the potential legalization of marijuana — pose to New York’s credit unions. The program will focus on the legal and compliance issues in this evolving area of law.
The workshop, “Is New York Going to Pot?” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 4, at the New York Credit Union Association’s headquarters in Albany.
This workshop will cover:
an update on the latest federal and state developments, including legislation making the sale of hemp-related products legal in New York state, and federal regulations outlining how hemp can be legally grown;
information on providing banking services for hemp businesses;
the key considerations in developing and implementing an appropriate compliance framework;
the issues credit unions should consider as when providing services to marijuana-related businesses;
key HR issues human resources personnel should already be thinking about as New York moves toward legalizing marijuana; and
the challenges hemp growers and businesses dealing with financial institutions face.
