Several Recognition Awards will be presented to New York credit unions during the New York Credit Union Association’s virtual 2020 Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, June 15. Today’s featured award is the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award, which honors credit unions that strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of non-members through community outreach programs.
This year’s first-place winners are Community Resource FCU and SeaComm FCU. Great Erie FCU received an honorable mention.
Community Resource FCU is receiving the award in the $50 million – $250 million asset category for the credit union’s initiative, Charitable Giving to Inner City Residents, in which the credit union raised funds to support Credit Unions 4 Kids, Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless and the credit union’s Capital Roots Garden Bowl program. Funds raised allow the organization to provide community gardens, healthy food access, nutritional and horticultural education for all ages.
SeaComm FCU is receiving the award in the $250 million – $1 billion asset category for its Community Support Initiative, which promotes acts of kindness, including donations to schools, hospitals, less-fortunate families, homeless youths and animal shelters. In 2019, SeaComm gave more than $376,000 in donations and sponsorships, helping to empower communities and improve the lives of its members.
Great Erie FCU is receiving an honorable mention for their work with The Rural Outreach Center, providing regular support in the form of financial services, budgeting services, workshops and donations. Donations are provided by credit union staff on a regular and as-needed basis, and credit union staff volunteer at all ROC fundraisers. During the holidays, Great Erie sponsors families associated with the ROC, providing gifts and food items.
