It’s not often the words “credit unions” and “cheese” are used in the same sentence. Until now.
In recognition of International Credit Union Week Oct. 11-17, the New York Credit Union Association is teaming up with Cabot Creamery to send member credit unions care packages of its award-winning Cabot Creamery cheddar.
But why Cabot Creamery, known for its flavorful variety of cheeses and dairy products?
As a co-op, Cabot Creamery shares the Association’s cooperative spirit and principles. Cabot Creamery is a cooperative owned and operated by its 800 members — dairy farmers and their families throughout New York and New England — and employing 1,000-plus people across four plants in three states.
October also happens to be Co-op Month, where cooperative businesses reflect on their shared principles and to educate others about the value of belonging to a cooperative.
“As a co-op, we love to work with and support other cooperatives throughout the country who share our cooperative values,” a note in care packages sent to member credit unions next week from Cabot Creamery says. “This has been a difficult year for many, but through it all, credit unions like yours have continued to serve your members day in and day out.”
Member credit unions can expect to receive their care packages in the next week. Look for more information about International Credit Union Week in next week’s New York Minute.
