CU professionals, here is how to learn more about promoting DEI

Credit union professionals are invited to participate in a three-day virtual diversity, equity and inclusion summit this week, Nov. 2-4, hosted by the NCUA.

The goal of the summit, titled “From Intention to Action,” is to provide credit union industry professionals who are committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion a forum to share best practices, address challenges to advancing diversity and learn how the NCUA can support the industry in its efforts, according to the agency.

An opening town hall event will feature Todd Harper, NCUA chairman, who will discuss the importance of a leadership commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Panelists will address how pivotal moments in America’s history, both past and present, reveal the need for leaders to take action to advance DEI within the credit union industry and in society at large.

Summit topics include:

  • how to get started in the DEI journey;
  • how to increase gender diversity in the C-suite;
  • facilitating courageous conversations around tough topics;
  • diversity in the boardroom; and
  • economic equity and justice.

“Embracing the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion is vital to the continued health and success of the credit union system because it leads to better consumer protection, greater innovation, improved solutions and increased membership,” Harper said.
