Award Spotlight: Outstanding Volunteer

The 2022 Recognition Awards will be presented to New York credit unions during the New York Credit Union Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George June 16–19. The awards will be presented during the general session on Friday, June 17.

Today’s featured award is the Outstanding Volunteer Award, which recognizes volunteers who exemplify commitment to their credit unions and consistently embody the “people helping people” philosophy. The Association is proud to recognize Nancy Kappler-Foster, board chair at Hudson Valley Credit Union, as the 2022 Outstanding Volunteer.

“As chairman of our board of directors, Nancy has been a consistent contributor to the improvements in our governance model and hence our service to our members,” according to her nomination. “She contributes her time and talent not only to HVCU, but also to many other local organizations that help to improve our community. She is a proven leader who is respected by her fellow volunteers, our management team, and staff. She embodies all of our core values, but especially in how she shows respect and integrity in all her interactions.”

Kappler-Foster has been a member of Hudson Valley Credit Union for over 30 years, and a committed volunteer for two-thirds of that time. She began her service to Hudson Valley Credit Union’s cooperative in 2002 as a member of the supervisory committee, eventually chairing the committee in 2010 and 2011. Since joining the board of directors in 2012, she has held positions including assistant treasurer (2013–2014), treasurer (2015–2019), and finally chairman of the board as of December 2019.

Volunteering comes naturally to Kappler-Foster, and the credit union is not the only recipient of her commitment and passion. In addition to her work with HVCU, she has helped to advance the missions and objectives of several local non-profits.
