New York Credit Union Association President/CEO William J. Mellin, along with CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle and 35 other CEOs from state credit union associations/leagues, penned a letter calling on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee to conduct hearings on marijuana banking.
The state Assembly Banks Committee passed an important bill yesterday that would grant credit unions access to the state Banking Development District Program. The legislation was introduced and sponsored by Assembly Banks Committee Chairman Kenneth Zebrowski, D-Westchester-Rockland, and is now headed to the Ways and Means Committee.

Voting for the New York Credit Union Association’s contested board of director seats closes tomorrow. In accordance with Association bylaws, all online votes must be cast and paper ballots received by tomorrow. Elections are being held for one board seat in the up to $25 million asset category, and two seats in the $25 million – $100 million asset category.

The Syracuse Common Council passed a resolution today supporting municipal deposits in credit unions. The council also held a press conference announcing their public support for the legislation, A.3262 (Zebrowksi)/S.6079 (Sanders), which would allow credit unions to accept deposits from municipal corporations.
