Longtime credit union volunteer Emidio “Midge” P. Giannini died last week in Lockport. Giannini dedicated more than 50 years to credit union volunteer service with Carborundum N F CU, Greater Niagara FCU and the Niagara Chapter Council, where he served as Chapter president.
Giannini was a Navy veteran who served as a Seaman First Class SV-6 during World War II. He was also supervisor of repair and maintenance at Carborundum, his credit union’s sponsor organization, for 38 years.
In 2006, Giannini was honored with the New York Credit Union Association’s Outstanding Volunteer Award, which honors volunteers who exemplify commitment to their credit unions and consistently embody the “people helping people” philosophy. In particular, Giannini was recognized for his commitment to credit union advocacy and his enthusiasm for meeting with political leaders.
