Recognition Awards will be presented to New York credit unions and individuals during EXCEL 23, the New York Credit Union Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George June 15–18. The awards will be presented during the general session on Friday, June 16.
The Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award is awarded to a credit union for its practical application of credit union philosophy within the actual operation of the credit union. It is awarded for internal programs and services that benefit membership.
This year, the Association is proud to recognize Alternatives FCU in the $50M-$250M asset-size category, and GPO FCU in the $250M-$1B asset-size category, with Olean Area FCU receiving an honorable mention award in the $250M-$1B asset-size category.
Alternatives FCU
Alternatives FCU, through its Ultra Outreach initiative, provided affordable financial services and business development assistance to minority communities throughout Chemung County. “The need was so great we made a commitment to increase our presence by visiting churches, businesses, nonprofits and government agencies to make sure the people and stakeholders knew that Alternatives was able to provide affordable financial services and business development assistance in their community.”
GPO FCU
GPO implemented what is known as, “The GREAT Experience.” GREAT stands for Greet, Relate, Educate, Ask and Thank the member. This employee message outlines steps of the brand experience and is an important tool for employees to use. GPO also emphasized during this project that it is local, accessible, reliable and family-oriented. GPO FCU also established hiring those who care and look out for members’ best interests, as well as understanding that the credit union is an expert source for financial assistance.
Olean Area FCU
In observance of Olean Area FCU’s 50th anniversary year, a CD special was implemented for a limited time with the goal of raising $5 million in new deposits. This project best represents the practical application of credit union philosophy within the actual operation of the credit union because it was an internal project that benefited our membership by increasing their savings.
