Recognition Awards will be presented to New York credit unions and individuals during the New York Credit Union Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George June 15–18. The awards will be presented during the general session on Friday, June 16.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award honors credit unions that strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of nonmembers through community outreach programs.

This year’s award winners include Western New York FCU in the $50 million to $250 million asset-size category and SeaComm FCU in the $250 million asset-size category, in addition to Cornerstone Community FCU, who received an honorable mention award in the $250 million to $1 billion asset-size category. In the over-$1 billion asset-size category, the recipient is Teachers FCU.

Western New York FCU
Western New York FCU staff provided holiday gifts for 35 residents of the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center. Funds, time and energy were donated to provide holiday gifts for patients who are often overlooked around the holidays, adding joy and warmth to their lives during a challenging season.

SeaComm FCU
Seacom FCU, through its Pay-It Forward program, facilitated 26 community events and donations through the Pay-It Forward program. The numerous events made possible through the program helped to create a chain reaction of kindness throughout the communities it serves, and during each event, staff engaged with members and non-members alike, communicating the credit union philosophy of people helping people. “These events and random acts of kindness helped to bring joy to those who need it most.”

Cornerstone Community FCU
Cornerstone Community FCU identified the need for a committee to champion culture, diversity, inclusion and community. To fulfill that need, the CODIAC Team was formed. CODIAC stands for Community Outreach Diversity and Inclusion. This group is comprised of 12 leaders and teammates throughout the organization. Throughout 2022, the Committee found ways to engage the entire Cornerstone team to support the community it serves while enhancing the overall culture of the organization through a variety of initiatives.

Teachers FCU
Teachers FCU was recognized for its Smart for a Cause project. More than 300 Teachers FCU employees participated in the Making Strides for Long Island Walk and helped fund-raise a total of over $124,000 for the fight against breast cancer. The event is the largest Making Strides Walk in the country, with over 65,000 people attending the 2022 event.
