Young professionals from the Catskill-Hudson Chapter recently volunteered their time at the Orange County Senior Games. The event served as a chance to raise credit union awareness while giving back to the Orange County community.

The Orange County Senior Games is hosted by the Orange County Office of the Aging and Orange County Parks & Recreation. The games focus on promoting healthy lifestyles and improving the well-being of seniors in the community. It is a two-week event that consists of recreational, social and other activities.

Senior athletes participated in a variety of competitive activities including a one mile walk, football toss, soccer kick, and softball hit and throw. The credit union volunteers helped set up, manage and score the events for the day.

“I became involved with the games six years ago and it really is such a rewarding experience for myself and the senior participants,” said Rachel Ronk, real estate closing and secondary market supervisor at Hudson Valley FCU.

Ronk, who also serves on the Orange County Senior Games planning committee, said credit unions and the games share several similarities: “The Games are completely run by local volunteers; they help build and foster relationships in the community; and both exemplify the ‘people helping people’ philosophy.”
